Strange child

My kids have always been pretty good about avoiding any of those strange, slightly dangerous activities that are characteristic of children. They never put things in their mouths as babies, never showed any interest in the medicine cabinet or cleaning products, never tried to climb the shelves (okay, Fiona did it once) or pull dressers down on themselves. I thought I had gotten away with pretty low-maintenance kids, at least in this area. Until today that is.

Fiona came asking if I could "get a bogey" out of her nose. I was cooking, distracted and said to just blow her nose already! She replied that she had already tried that... I said she'd have to wait. She starts to walk away, then says the fateful words "What if it's not a bogey, what if it's a Polly Pocket?" WHAT?! Sure enough, she shoved a Polly Pocket magnetic purse up her nose. With quite a bit of fussing and some pain on her part we managed to pull the darn thing out with tweezers. I still don't know what possessed her to stick something up her nose, and I probably never will. So much for my low-maintenance kids.

Ellie's tried peas and cereal so far. Oh, and one other food item I can't remember. It's fun. Really. I keep an extra pair of tweezers on standby now.

I'm glad you got the Polly purse out. I think magnets are more dangerous than food. Yikes.

Holy Polly Pocket!! Yep, I don't see this happening again. Jared (grandson) at some point got a corn kernel in his ear. Eventually it was detected and surgically removed. Kids!

I am so lucky. My dd has not done anything like that. I would be a combination of really p***d at her and terrified she was going to be hurt. Congratulations on your retrieval skills. I love the way she asked you about it. That is too funny.

Oh that is too funny!

Our kids are the same way -- never really did anything "typical" then when Josh started Kindergarten, the very first week of school I was called in because he'd put a bean in his ear! We had to go to the doctor because it was lodged in so far!

Thankfully, he's never done anything like that agian!

Oh my! That sounds icky! Luckily, my children have not tried this, but I am not ruling it out.

Actually Jae- It went IN green, LOL.

It's been a good learning experience. Scare tactics are a great way to get your point across.... "If you do that again you'll have to go to the hospital and the doctor will have to yank it out with BIG tweezers and you'll probably have to get a shot too!" Oooh, I'm a mean mommy.

This makes me kinda glad my kid is the kind that's into everything. Almost. Her poor little nose!

Oh holy crap. I'm dreading the day Noah decides to push some random object into one of his orifices (ok, that sounded a little dirtier than I intended). I seriously would've freaked out because I'm just squeamish like that. I'm glad you managed to get it out with tweezers instead of having to go to the emergency room. And hopefully she learned her lesson.

LOL Oh my. I have fairly low-danger children too. I guess I have the Polly Pocket years to look forward to!
